I hate to say it, but I'm guessing we're looking at a July release if anything.

Huh? Why do you say that? The Penryn chips will be available in bulk way before that. Since switching to Intel, Apple has used every major chip release in the MBP right around (shortly after) the time that those same chips went in comparable PC notebooks. So are you predicting that nobody in the industry will have Penryn notebooks until July, or that apple simply won't bother to use those chips? Neither makes any sense...

And "if anything?" Barring apple closing its doors or the end of the world, they *will* be updated at some point...

There's a good chance they'll just push updates until early summer, and coincide them with Macbook updates. I'm also of the persuasion that a lack of updates in January will mean a lack of updates until June/July.

Why would anything be updated before the MBP? Everything else was relatively recently updated

I'm going to give them until the end of Feb, then i'll take the plunge and either get a Mac Pro or Macbook Pro.

I dont really want to buy old technology, which is what the MBP is!

For some reason our standard entry level iMac has been delayed until next tuesday. They said the system hadn't been built....... I wondered if this is going to be updated to Penryn?

This does seem a bit odd, considering i ordered it on late Monday!
