Hey guys.

This weekend I'll be picking up a Blackbook 2Ghz C2D laptop. I'm a PC user and an engineering student. So it's a fun wee project to get me introduced to Macs! :D

It's sold as faulty with a faulty logic board and a dead hard drive. (picked it up for pennies and soon I'll be prepared to fork out for a replacement board in case things don't work.

This is the description of the problem from the seller:

"what happens is that it shuts itself off randomly.
However, when pressing the power button down for a little
longer until you hear a high pitch noise the machine stays
on with a hard working fan. As soon as it goes to sleep
and you wake it up again it crashes again. Perhaps
something to do with the thermostat. "

Thermostat is objective number one... but are there any other tips anyone could suggest that could point me in the right direction?

Cheers :D

Check for liquid spills to the logic board, with a strong magnifying glass first and clean as necessary. Also check the battery connector for signs of arching from liquid spills.
