MBA 13" in direct light

when i hold me MBA say towards a window... when the machine is off i can see light coming through the Apple sign on the back lighting up on the screen... is this normal?

Yes its normal. The logo is slightly translucent.

There isn't a special light that makes the Apple logo light up, it lights up because of the backlight from LCD. Since it's open to allow light from the LCD to go through the logo, it also lets light from the logo through to the LCD.
