MBA 13" Medio 2013 with 4K screen?

Hi. When Apple finally decides to release a new version of the 13" MacBook Pro i'm going to buy that and also a 4K screen for when I need a bigger screen. BUT... No one knows when that will be and right now I got a great offer on the 4K screen I wan't, but I only got an MBA 13" Medio 2013, so I know that the MBA probably won't support the 4K screen, but can I connect the MBA to the 4K screen anyway and just run in on the highest settings that the MBA supports?
