I have searched absolutely everywhere for a solution. I even got in contact with customer service at Apple ... which worked, temporarily.
So I have a Mid 2011 MBA i5 running on OS X Lion 10.7.5 .... I have had it for a bit longer than 1.5years (it previously belonged to my father)
The other day my fan started going insane and has been so loud and ridiculous. It is now (and has been) at about almost 6500rpm!!! My temperatures are as follows:
HD - 37
CPU - ~45
Enclosure bases 1,2,3 - averaging 30
Heatsink B - ~75
Memory bank A1 - ~40
Mem controller - ~40
These are in degrees celcius and according to iStat pro. The bottom of the laptop (keyboard area etc) is not hot. It is the metal casing behind the actual screen that is on fire! Particularly on the top left hand corner.
I tried searching so many places but nowhere seemed to have this screen heat problem??
Something similar happened near the time when I was first given this laptop and all I did was reformat it and everything was perfectly fine! Until now.
The first step I did almost straight away (out of instinct as per last time something like this happened) was to reformat. I backed up everything and reformatted immediately. After doing this and reinstalling the OS ... nothing changed. The fan was still loud and the screen was still hot.
I requested a call from Apple and the man kindly helped me temporary fix the issue by resetting the SMC (command+option+P+R) and my laptop worked fine for the rest of the day yesterday. I got home from work just about an hour ago and the problem had resurfaced! I tried resetting the SMC again but nothing happened this time...
I think the problem may have been triggered because I brought my laptop out in the car a few days ago and left it there opened as I washed the car and the temperature inside the car became very very hot. Would this be a legitimate reason as to what caused the crazy fan and boiling screen??
Why is it that the metal behind my screen is getting so hot!? It does not really get that hot around the charging port? .. or anywhere else tbh. Just the left side of the screen. What can I do to fix it? I really don't want to buy a new laptop...!!
