Hey guys,
I'm going to be a freshman in college this fall and I'm going to need a Mac for school work like word processing, web browsing, reading, and maybe some photo and video editing. I'm on a $1200 budget so the retina is out of the question. As of now I prefer the MBA simply because of its portability but I'm afraid it might start hanging up if I run too many applications (I've had some bad expriences with pcs). Which laptop should I get? And if the MBA should I upgrade the ram or the CPU or both since its base is 100 under my budget. Thanks!

Get the 2013 MBA, and upgrade the RAM if you can afford it - it will make a difference in the future if running many applications.

Highly unlikely that you'd ever need an i7, the i5 has much more power than you'll need.
