I've taken apart my wife's old, dead 2015 13" MBA and would like to repurpose the display. But in order to do so, I need the model number for the display itself so that I can source a controller board. Does anyone out there know the display model number? This would be the model number from the display manufacturer for the LCD panel itself.

ETA: I can't separate the display from the top shell without destroying it, so there's no way for me to check that way.

As far as I know, Apple only used two makers: Samsung and LG.

The controller board is located between the LCD and outer shell? I'm asking because I thought all of the circuitry was somewhere on the main logic board of the Air.

Thanks for this. The circuitry is all on the main logic board, but I'm trying to connect this screen to a Raspberry Pi, so I need a separate controller board. The display should have a label from the manufacturer that would allow me to match it up, but I can't get to it because I would have to destroy the panel in order to separate it from the chassis.

If you disassemble the display, you will most likely break it yeah, @kirbyrun . And worse than that, you will see no markings on the back of the panel. That's because they want to save space. You might have better luck searching for a controller board for a 2015 MBA display or looking into the display's primary board that is easily accessible through removing the plastic cover (sliding it to the right).

Hope I helped!

I spent most of the weekend looking for a controller board for a 2015 MBA and had no luck. My Google-fu is weak. :)

What plastic cover are you talking about? On the main logic board?

The piece here, around the hinges. It should let you see the display controller board. You can also see it (a lot easier actually) if you take the screen front frame out (with a heat gun and guitar picks). The connection in the main logic board will carry both information for the backlight and screen and a bit more with a 30-pin connector to the control board that will read it and then spread it out.

I must have screwed something up when I took it apart -- with the hinges on the ends, I can't see a way to slide that plastic bit off.

You need to wedge the clutch cover off because you cannot access the hinge screws without doing so.

There are three torx screws holding the hinge place.

I see no markings or model # anywhere after removing the clutch cover.

He is correct. But apparently the gigantic bezel protects the board as well. Is the plastic thing just to make it look good? Usually it should host the antenna because it can't be contained by metal. Once the frame it plastic, this could be the case, yeah. The use of plastic for this black plastic cover makes it look more like the rest of the MacBook line. And it is important to hide and protect the 30-pin idp cable.

The board can be seen int his vide, at 6:12.

Yeah, I just popped off the cover, too, and see no markings whatsoever. Sigh. Oh, well -- it was a fun idea while it lasted!
