I have a 2017 MacBook Air running 10.13.5 I bought in March and have been having issues with the battery heavily draining while closed. While I LOVE Chrome, it was hindering my productivity in not allowing me to have a full day of battery....maybe 4-5 hours at most.

So, I ditched Chrome. That helped a lot. With the right tweaks, Safari will work.

The other part that helped was to reset the PRAM and SMC.

Testing last night...charged it to 100%, unplugged and closed the lid. Opened this morning and still at 100%. This hasn't happened before. typically I would see about a 30-40% drop in battery overnight.

Hope this works for others. I was starting to wonder if I had a bad battery in my new MBA.

If the Macbook was like this from the beginning, have it diagnosed by Apple, especially if it's still under warranty.

If the battery is draining so much while in hibernation, sounds to me like a program is preventing the Air from entering deep sleep.

I have all 3 Safari-Firefox-Chrome in my MacBook for a variety of reasons but Safari is my go-to for everyday browsing. Nobody does pinch-zoom and scrolling smoother than Safari, IMO.
