Hi all, this is my first post!

I’m thinking of buying the new MBA. I have the MB 12" from 2016 (m7, 8 Gb ram). I like the portability of it and it's great but the screen is a little bit too small and when connected to my 4K display it can be sluggish.
I do some simple 4K video editing with FCPX and to my surprise it runs FCPX quite good. Of course there are times it is a little bit sluggish but the overall experience is good. I have noticed that everything worked more smoothly when a had a 1440p monitor so it seems that the 4K is too much for it.

What do you think, should I still go with the MBA with 16 Gb ram or should I think to buy the TB MBP? What's the benefit of having quad-core if it seems that FCPX runs well also with dual-core and m7 processor? Is the TB MBP more for very professional FCPX users (multiple tracks and layers etc..)?

Thank you in advance!

If you’re going to be editing a lot then I would get the MacBook Pro. For light and occasional editing the 12” MacBook has been proven to be able to handle it (as sewn by YouTube videos) the benchmarks for the new Air show that there’s an improvement, so I would say it’s very much doable, I wouldn’t want to edit 4K all that often on it tho, it really depends on how often you will be doing it?

Reviews for the new MacBook Air should be dropping soon, that’s what I’m waiting for, I would wait and see what they have to say.
