Hi,

So I just got my new 2020 MBA (i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) about a week ago and I'm having some strange issues with charging.

I had my MacBook lying on the desk for multiple hours (over night) with the original 30W power supply connected and when I started using it again the next day I noticed that the battery dropped to around 85% and it said "Battery not charging". No matter how often I (re) plugged the power supply out and back in again (on both ends) and using different power outlets. The only thing that seemed to help was to completely power the MBA down. After that it charged again.
This now happened twice in the past week.

I now upgraded to 10.15.5 yesterday and did a SMC reset. Hopefully this helps, but nevertheless this issue worries me a bit if this might be due to a hardware fault.

Does anyone had similar issues with the new 2020 MBA?
Thanks.

edit: I just realised, that this might be due to the new "Battery Health Management" Feature in 10.15.5?
I think I already installed 10.15.5 about a week ago and the update I installed yesterday was just the "Supplemental Update" to 10.15.5, but I'm not completely sure.

Yes, it will dip into the battery once in a while to reduce battery aging. For most batteries, staying at 100% for extended periods isn't healthy.

I had the same issue with 2019 MBP , the supplemental updates do not fix it, it charges some time and sometimes it does not, resorting the sic is not helping either, there are lot of discussion links of this issue in community page

I've had this ! My 2020 MBA i7 refuses to charge on one or sometimes both USB-C ... I reboot and it sometimes fixes it, sometimes not. If I do an SMC reset it usually sorts it.

I would think it was battery 'health' as per the above post but my headphone amp takes streamed music via a USB C too and that has the same issue - sometimes the presence of the USB and amp is simply not recognised in either USB-C and I reboot / SMC reset.

It is quite often the USB C nearer the back but not always.

I have never had this issue with any Mac and I have had them (and a number at that) for years and years !

Not too happy with this atm ... 2017 MBP burnt my thighs thus changed to the 2020 MBA which doesn't have hear issues but won't charge or has 'dead' USB C sockets until reboot/SMC reset ....
