MBA activation lock disabled

On my wife’s MBA , system information shows activation lock as disabled. So I followed the protocols to enable it, rebooted yet it still shows as disabled.
She can find her MacBook via her iPhone and ping it , so does this prove that activation lock is indeed enabled even though system information shows it as otherwise disabled. ?
