The keyboard light on my My MBA 13' Mid 2011 will not automatically turn on even under a dark environment. I have to physically, by pressing F6, to turn in on. I have turned on the "automatically illuminate keyboard in low light" option on in system preferences, whats going on?

toggle "automatically illuminate keyboard in low light" then restart you mba

Did you manage to get this fixed? My backlit keyboard is also unresponsive - I can manually turn it up or down, but the auto-setting doesn't do anything, even in pitch black (you can test it easily enough by covering the camera).

I've reset the SMC, but that hasn't change anything. The display brightness auto detect does work.

Edit: I was just Googling around, seems this is Lion bug? The backlit keyboard worked perfectly under Snow Leopard, as I recall. It even displayed the line through the on-screen icon to show the manual controls were unavailable when it was set to auto-on.
