I am in the market for another MBA - I have a 1.8 Ghz and need another one shortly. I can hold off until the fall. The 13 inch 2.0 GHz + 8 MB RAM currently configurable if you buy from Apple.com would do it for me, but wondering if any thoughts on where the machine could go from there in the short term (i.e., before Christmas 2012).

- Processor bump to 2.2 Ghz? Retina? Anything else?

The 13 inch form factor works for me, so rumors of a 15 inch don't influence me. much.

again, thanks to community for insights.

Probably they wont refresh the 2012 model until the summer of 2013, i dont see a cpu bump or a R-display coming soon to the MBA.

Just get the i7 one with 8GB and a capacity that suits you.

GPU bump?

Someone posted on the MBP thread that they noticed their Intel HD 3000 graphics went from 384 to 512 mb when they upgraded their Ram to 8 gigs or more.

I was wondering if the same happens with 8 gigs on the Intel HD4000 Airs. Does the upgraded systems get a bump over the 4's?

Hummm... a virtual upgrade (from RAM) vs a physical upgrade I'd say.

To answer that: Yes

When you get a MBA 8GB you will see that your HD4K will have 512MB available.
