MBA early 2014 ssd/motherboard problem

Hi, I have a MBA early 2014(boot rom MBA61.0099.B20) with the original factory 128GB ssd. When I turn it on, it powers up but nothing happens. The fan turns on, screen is black, no apple logo, no question mark folder icon. Its not possible to boot from usb hard disk when the ssd is still inserted.

If I remove the ssd, then turn it on, it shows question mark folder icon. I can boot up from usb hard disk only when the ssd is removed. The computer runs fine on usb hard drive.

My question is do i have a dead ssd or defective motherboard? Appreciate your help. thanks

Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure unless you are able to try the SSD in another machine or try another SSD in the machine.
