I bought my wife a 15” M3 MBA to replace her 2018 Intel MBA as a Christmas gift. Original delivery was 13th which should grant me time for the 14 days to return her old one for credit. But, it is now arriving early on the 9th. So the return window for trade in is now before Christmas.

Is 14 days set in stone?

Did you buy directly from Apple? If so, as per their holiday return policy, you have until January 8th to return.

I did buy direct from Apple but I am referring to returning her trade in. I did not think the holiday return extension was for that. I thought the extension was for returning if you didn’t want to keep it.

I see. Sorry, I misunderstood. I'm afraid I don't know how/if it works for that.

The trade-in time period is 14 days from when you receive the trade-in box. The time extension until January 8 is for returns on newly purchased products, not trade-ins.

I've read of trade-in shipping boxes failing to arrive, or being damaged - leading to Apple Support sending another, with an extension of the 14 days along with. You could try that route, if Apple won't extend it otherwise.

Other options - which they will allow : cancelling the order & buying again, with a later delivery / trade date; buying again & not cancelling right away, then returning the first once you have the one with a later date.
