The function key cover (bottom left-corner of keyboard) has mysteriously fallen out. I don't know where or how I just opened my MacBook and the key wasn't there. It was a key that was always sticky but as I rarely used the function key never bothered to get it repaired.

Anyway, the key cover isn't there anymore, just the key mechanism and the backlight.

I bought a replacement key cover from eBay, but it doesn't stay on and keeps falling off. I've watched a few videos and am doing as the video suggests but it still doesn't stay in place and just falls off easily.

I have one month left on my 1 year Apple warranty.

1) Is this something covered by Apple's limited warranty?
2) How quickly will they repair it? I need my MBA for work and can't be without it for more than a day or two.
3) If they won't cover it, how much will they likely charge to have it replaced?

I've tried asking Apple Support these questions over the phone but they just say to take it to my nearest Apple store/service centre, but my nearest one is half an hour away and closed at the moment.

Thanks

These are questions only Apple can answer.
But my guess:
1. Yes
2. I got my entire logic board replaced in 2 days, which included overnight shipping to Texas and back. They probably will not promise it that fast though.
3. A lot if they need to replace the whole keyboard. Not much if they just need to replace a key cap.

Comment: if a computer is critical to your work, you should have a backup of some sort. Either have another computer, or access or borrow a computer.
