Has anyone seen/read any reviews on the M1 vs a 2020 MBA with i7 and 16 gig of ram? I want to see the differences...seems like all reviews uses the 2020 MBA i5 with 8 gig of ram. TIA!

I had the i7 16GB of ram 2020 for a few months. It was maybe 8% higher performance then the i5.
Operating temps alone are also as big as the performance comparison between M1 and 2020 i7 or i5.

All of Apple's comparisons were to the i7 Air with 16GB. The M1 is significantly faster for anything native, and even on some apps that run under Rosetta 2.

I had an i7 MBA 2020 with 16Gb and 512 SSD. I only bought it in June but traded it for an M1 MBA.
I found the i7 MBA extremely disappointing and slow. The M1 is awesome in comparison.
I was so disappointed with the i7 MBA I tried out an i5 2Ghz MBP and that was in a different league to the i7 MBA ... if you go for an older 2020 MBA don' bother with the i7, just get the i5. That said, get the M1 !!! Hugely better.

I remember when you bought that. Why did you get rid of it?

It was not that I did not like it, I really did. I needed to replace my iPad Mini 4 and I ended up getting the 11” iPP. Then I got the MK. I was still in a 90 day return window on the MBA and with the newness of the iPP I made a split decision to send the MBA back for at the time seemed like a good financial decision.

So you took like a $800 hit?

I took a £750 hit yes. I hated the older MBA for the rubbish performance. I regretted it very quickly after giving my 2017 3.5Ghz MBP to the wife. It's rare for me to want to throw money away but this was one of those times when I just thought 'f*** it'. I am very happy with the new M1 MBA.
