I see that from time to time Refurbished MacBook Air's pop up on Apple's Refurbished store. I'm looking for a new laptop and have had good experiences with Mac laptops in the past. I have a custom PC for heavy gaming and intensive tasks but am looking to get a MBA for work/school as I spend far more time doing work on the go these days.
I'd be using it mainly for MS Office, some web browsing, some light gaming (not graphic intense), and maybe some light music making (Garage Band/Reason). But mostly it'll be for word documents, emailing, powerpoints, and spreadsheet. Thrilling I know.
I don't need a lot of on board storage and from what I've heard the OS is very memory efficient so I'd probably get the 4GB model to save cash. I plan on adding AppleCare to the laptop as well.
That said I've been watching the Refurb store and see the 2013 1.3 ghz and 2014 1.4 ghz models pop up. Both have from what I can tell identical specs other than the 100 Mhz processor spec bump. I've also seen reviews saying that the 2013 model's SSD is actually faster than the 2014 SSD, but of course the 2014 has a slightly faster processor and technically is only a year older versus two years old in name.
Price difference including tax between models is around $60 bucks. I'd get Applecare with education discount afterwards. I'm on a pretty tight budget lately and my Windows current laptop is on it's way out after only 2 years (Every Mac I've owned has lasted at least 3 and still were like new!). My goal is for it to last 3 years.
So what would you go for?
