it said that I needed to have a APFS Partition... so I left part of my HD the way it was while I formatted the other part to APFS, then I got this error above... how do you do a firmware upgrade? I tried and looked on Apple.ca etc. even other forums and I’m don’t know what needs to be done.
I obviously was able to download the latest MacOS Catalina, but it wouldn’t let me select a drive, even though I formatted into a APFS partition drive... What can be done?
 
Looks like it may not like the dual partitions.

All I can suggest is create a Catalina USA installer, back up, erasethe drive, create new partitions, and try again.

Firmware upgrades are installed when installing or upgrading the OS.
