macrumors 6502
I’m in the market for a new computer and am considering the new MacBook Pros, but as rumors of the more portable Airs arose I’ve started to wonder if I should wait to see what improvements the Air brings as I would always appreciate something more portable.
Right now my 2014 MBP 15” 1TB and 16GB is struggling a lot with basic tasks, including scrolling thru and organizing my big (almost 400gb) photo library but my guess is that that is more because it is simply old than ram etc. Computers have changed a lot since 2014 and Im not sure if I truly need a MBPro anymore?
I plan to get more involved in photography as a hobby this year, experimenting with macro photo stacking, astro exposure composites/stacking, and very occasionally ocr large 100pg documents ina abbyy. I wont do this stuff every day but will appreciate a computer that will not lock up when I try.
I do have a nasty habit of multitasking, leaving dozens upon dozens of tabs open along with big pdfs, the library, long word docs for work, etc. all at once.
I’m always telling myself I’ll leave less stuff open but never get around to closing stuff. I similarly always tell myself I’ll purge my library of garbage but never get around to it.
Assuming MBAs come out soon, should I get a MBP or MBA? If MBP which configuration?
I’ll prolly get 2TB at this point, my 1TB is 2/3 full. Should I also bump up to 32GB RAM for all that multitasking?
Currently the 2014 16GB does loads of swapping with safari + photos and stalls, but maybe more because it is old than the actual RAM? Or do I need more RAM?
I also plan to use this with a Studio Display (just gotta decide on the stand)…not sure if that pushes things one way or the other?
