Hey guys, I currently own a late 2012 MBA with only the ram upgraded.
For most everything I do, it does well. The portability is awesome.
However, the one thing it drags at is the most critical. At work we use Microsoft Terminal Services for working. My air seems to struggle with this a bit more than most others. The delay makes it hard to be very productive when I use the laptop for this. I assume this is partially from the processor and the wifi card?
My 27" imac with a quad core on wifi handles it very well.
Would I notice any difference in a new 2012 Air? Or would the MBP be a better alternative?

Have you tried running CoRD instead of MS' RDP client for OSX? I find it to be a better app.

I think remote access apps are not that intensive so you shouldn't see too much performance issues as it is
