So I'm planning on purchasing an 11.6 MBA in the next week or so, and have 1 question about battery management. I know that it has a "5 hour" battery life, and a "30 day" standby mode. And that sleep is different. How does this work?

If I close the lid, do I put it into standby mode instantly? Is that a setting I can choose? And waking from standby, is that still "instant" awake?

Is sleep for only when the lid is open?

And if I were able to set it so that whenever I close the lid, even for 3 minutes, it goes to standby, would the battery life increase such that I could probably make it through the day with it, using it for maybe 4 hours, and having it be in standby mode for the rest of the day?

Thanks!

IIRC MBAs enter standby mode after one hour of sleeping. I don't think you can change that setting. It's not that instant awake but we are still talking about few seconds.

Hey Hallhammer,
do you have a MBA 2011? It look strange that yours is in a different order to mine. And yours is proper working going to sleep and after 60-70 min to hibernation mode? Your standby looks like being off set?!
Thanks for your reply anyway

I have 2010 MBA running Snow Leopard. I think it enters hibernation when it should as sometimes waking it up takes a little longer.
