Hi!

I'm strongly considering buying a new MBA 8 core CPU/ 8 core GPU/8GB RAM/512 GB SSD. My old windows notebook works but it started to collapse a few weeks ago. I'm sure that I will buy a MacBook however a major concern Is should I wait for a new MBA or not. I heard that a new MBA should be launched this year instead of 2022 as priorly thought. What should I do?

I ordered a new M1 MBA in Nov, 16G RAM and 1T SSD, but am still waiting for the shipment. I don't see any reason to wait for a refresh. But if you are talking about a refresh of MBP with more than 16G RAM and external GPU, then it make sense.

Buy now without hesitation. This is one of the best Mac products every made. Silent, fastest single core speed of any non-M1 Mac, and no Touch Bar. Bonus: It doesn't require as much RAM as Intel products.

Sure, there will be better machines in the future, but for $899 on educational discount (or $949 at Costco with 2 year warranty) you cannot beat this machine.

I would say buy now if you want an Air. Most of the up and coming rumors speak of a larger MBP not the Air. I have been very happy with my Air and its capabilities. I don't think you can beat some of the. prices I have seen for the Air.

OP wants 512GB.

OP,

IMO, don't wait (2022 is a long way off) and don't try to future proof. Buy what you need now and plan to upgrade sooner rather than later.

is the M1 Pro (same ssd drive space) worth the extra.... well "pro" name or $250 more than the air?

it comes with 0.2 lb of extra weight, so it should be. :)

on a serious note, the main things it has are a fan (gives a bit more headroom before throttling), a better display, better speakers, and a touch bar.

for me, given the touch bar, extra 0.2 lb, and potential for fan noise, it is worth $250+ less than the air.

what exactly does the touch bar do? besides adjust colors in photoshop and other adjustments the track should perform?
i never owned a pro, and seems to me they are more available quicker than an air.
the feature most important would be full drop-off syncing with the iPad, and airplay through tv
