I’m starting a new job next week and need to get a computer. I have a $1500 stipend and would prefer to not go much beyond that. My work phone is an iPhone and having iMessage enabled across my devices for it is important to me so I’m going with either the 13” Pro or the MBA.

My work consists mostly of email, doc processing, and writing. On their own these are obviously very low-energy tasks but all of them will take place inside our Remote Desktop software (Citrix). I’ve used it before and it can be pretty laggy on slower devices. Given that and the number of documents I’ll have open at any time, I definitely want 16gb of RAM but I’m unsure of the MBA will have to power to run the Remote Desktop smoothly. I will have to travel around and bring this laptop with me everywhere so the extra light weight of the air is nice but I can definitely deal with the extra pound of the Pro if it’ll run better. Thanks!

I would be very surprised if Citrix requires a lot of processing power. Also, would it even take advantage of multiple cores? It probably lags for other reasons (RAM, internet speed or such?). My guess would be that MBA with 16GB RAM would be the best choice. But to be sure I would contact Citrix and ask them the best specs for their software and their advice.
