MBP is a better value but I don't like it because it gets too hot. MBA is lighter and runs cooler and I prefer that.

If it's a virtual desktop, then MBP – for the extra grunt; otherwise, MBA. I love the portability of the MBA.

Depends what you're going to do with it. The battery life of the MBA is significantly better and it does tend to stay cool with that lower power CPU.

Honestly, if you're a light user who doesn't use Google Chrome, you're probably good with the MBA.

The good news is, there isn't really a wrong answer here.

Both computers are great! I tend to prefer the Air because of its sloped body and no Touch Bar. Granted it's slower and has a slightly dimmer screen than the Pro, but most people won't notice that in daily use.

I totally get the appeal of a MacBook Air with a U series processor and a butterfly keyboard.

Just some MBA info from someone who uses one:
I own a 2019 MacBook Air (typing this reply on it now) and I love it. The nit value may be lower, but I can't operate this MBA on full brightness because it is too bright for me. I have also edited videos on this machine in iMovie and it doesn't even hiccup. The MBA is a wonderful machine.
