I have a 128GB 2017 model that died and wouldn't boot up for weeks on end twice. I took it into Apple both times, the first time they reset the battery and it wouldn't start up again within three days, the second time they quoted me $1370 to replace the logic board so I told them no and stashed it in a drawer for a month. I had tried all the usual tricks, leaving it plugged in to charge completely, etc etc but to no avail. On a whim I took it out and plugged it in (after leaving it for a month) and it booted up (much to my surprise!)

So the question I have is, is this normal behavior for this model of MBA? After browsing through forums it seems like there are issues running through the MBA line. Or could this be a problem caused by the battery drain or the logic board, and does anyone have any solutions?

(note: I'd rather avoid going back to Apple since they're notoriously incompetent in my country and I'd rather not have to drop $1370 on a new logic board that might not even be the issue)

Try this: disconnect the battery, connect the charger, don't touch the MacBook as it should power up on its own. If it fits boot up, it'll be slow because there is no battery connected. Use it in this condition over the next few days. If it continues to boot up every time, buy a new battery.
