Trying to find out why my 2012 11" MBA on 10.13.6 won't wake(*). This is a fresh install of High Sierra, I have done the SMC and PRAM reset thing, 'Wake for WiFi Access' is unticked... (*At first I thought it wasn’t going to sleep, but the log at 12:22:05 seems to show it is sleeping - although the sleep key-combo doesn’t work… Also, maybe ‘Drivers failure’ at 12:47:39 is a clue to not waking?) On start up I have to hold the power button for about 3.5 seconds for the chime. Release the button too early (within say, a second or so of hearing the chime) and it just shuts back down. Then there is a second boot chime (it double-boots).

I bought this as "sluggish starting up" without an SSD. Originally I had to delete a kext to fix the awfully laggy behaviour. I tried installing Mojave and then El Cap but neither worked. The laggy behaviour returned a couple of times as the kext was recreated due to OS updates. I kept removing it and that kept fixing the problem - until I randomly decided to put it back and the laggy behaviour didn't return... Go figure. Oh - and the not-waking thing pre-dates the kext removal (and I've also renewed).

EtreCheck says:
Major Issues: SIP disabled (*not any more). Apple security disabled.
Minor Issues: No TM backup. High battery count. Vintage hardware. 32-bit Apps.

does the MacBook air work well while using El Capitan?
high sierra was very buggy on my MacBook air 2010 but never suffered the power problems your is facing.
i would reset the MacBook air to factory setting and use i think mountain lion and see if that works,
if not the ssd drive could be at fault.
this july i replaced/upgraded to a larger ssd drive which sped up the MacBook air and allowed for more space, which is s nice thing.
i hoped this helped.

I couldn't get either El Cap or Mojave installed. Only HS seemed to install properly. This is a fresh install on a new SSD. Apart from the 'won't wake up' problem, it's smooth as butter.

The new ssd drive probably won't recognize those OSXs.
i purchased one that would work with Mojave which luckily does.
anyways
how do you wake up the MacBook air then?
i keep my on all the time because putting that to sleep might shut down the MacBook air- since the power button broke back in 2015.
high sierra is okay and syncs well with your  products, hopefully you have pages, numbers etc installed.
