I have a mbox 1 with a Macbook Pro Uni 13" with Snow Leopard. How do i get garageband recognize it?

i dled the stand alone driver for leopard, my gb recognized it! i haven't tested it out with instruments, but at least it recognized it.

my garageband sees it, but when i play my guitar it doesn't receive any sound. anybody knows what's up?

A nice little work-around

I have a MBox1 and found a nice little work around to use it on Snow Leopard. It involves Pure Data and Soundflower.

Basically you download Soundflower which is a free audio routing application. And Pure Data is a free audio/video programming software. Snow Leopard sees Soundflower so you make that your audio output in OSX. Then I made a simple little patch in Pure Data that connects Soundflower to your MBox, since PD can see your MBox1.

Feel free to email me if you want the patch:

fender2424@gmail.com

I basically have a shortcut to my PD patch on my desktop, and then go to system preferences to change my audio output to Soundflower when I turn my computer on. It only takes a few seconds and works perfectly (with a little bit of latency - which isn't a problem for what I use it for)

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Had similar issue...

Just after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, a friend gave me an mbox to power some studio monitors I got on the cheap. When I went to set it up, I realized Digi isn't supporting OG mbox for OS 10.6. In my searches I found something that said if 8.0.3 wouldn't work for you, to try core audio 7.4.2 driver (I think that was the one anyway.) So now, I run my mbox through my 10.6.3 laptop using this old driver.

Upside. My stuff works.

Downside. It doesn't support my system audio. It plays both Ableton and Reason just fine, but I can't use it to play my iTunes or watch a movie through VLC. Oh well, at least I can mix!

But can NOT re-install core audio 7.4.2 over 8.0.3 in 10.6.3

Tried to re-install Core audio 7.4.2 (macbook pro 10.6.3) but it seems that something stops it before end of process (message could not install something) finally does say completed but something does not want to work ; core audio quit. I had the 8.0.3 installed in first place.
Where can I get the latest firmware for OG Mbox?

It's a real pitty Avid makes us dump old Harware as if there wasn't enough waste in this world...

Fender 2424

I just bought an mbox 1 on ebay only to find I can't use it with Pro Tools
on my Intel Mac with Snow Leopard.

I tried to email you about the Pure Data patch but the email bounced. Wouldd really appreciate any info you can give me about how to do this.

Thanks

Hi, at first place sorry for my possible grammar errors, im spanish.
I tried a year ago the 7.4.2 driver and it works but i cant use input channel 2 (right) to record and i dont remeber if the outputs worked good, i tried it with logic 9.. two questions please, works protools 8.0.3+ with this driver in snow leopard?
And works all mbox inputs and outputs with protools or any other in snow leopard with this driver?

i discard the soundflower solution, its interesting, but i need low latency performance,

Thanks! :)

I'm interested in the aforementioned PD patch. Unfortunately, fender2424's GMail address is dead...

ERROR MESSAGE (1133) ProTools 6

I am trying to use an old mbox on my mac os X Macbook Pro. Whenever I try launching Protools I get the following error message: Digidesign hardware is in use by another application. (-1133).

What the heck is happening? No other apps are open....

Ya, that email address is done.

anyone else have success with this soundflower pure data thing.

I tried but to no avail.

and protools 9 will not work with the original m box, as it uses the pro tools aggregate system.
