I really hoped last year when I got my Macbook that I could finally hook up my laptop to my TV with no problems whatsoever.
In the past, especially under windows xp, it was a real pain in the ass to hook up a computer to a television.
With a Mac it is quite easy. I have Macbook Pro '10 i7 HR and a Minidisplayport to HDMI cable from the Apple Store. It is really plug 'n play.
But once everything is set up, I start getting these terrible little problems.
First, watching a SD movie will cause the fans to kick off constantly for the remaining of the movie. The fans are getting so loud that it is really disturbing. The other even more annoying problem is my Magic Mouse.
As you can imagine when you connect your mac to your tv, you would like to sit down on your couch and control everything from there.
That only works occasionally for me. At some point, the Magic Mouse gets really laggy and it is quite difficult to control my macbook then. I've noticed that is has to do with the distance between my magic mouse and my mac. I am only sitting about 1.5-2m away from my Macbook when hooking my Mac up to my TV and at first everything works but then it starts getting laggy. I then immediately tried to see if the lag remains when using the Mouse next to my macbook and indeed the lag disappears magically. I successfully used my magic mouse from a distance as far as 7-8m when my Macbook is not connected to my TV and as I said before, occasionally I do not experience these problems. Apple even replaced my out of the warranty magic mouse but that didnt help.
What is your experience with your Mac + TV setup? BTW, it doesnt matter if the Mac is in clamshell mode or not. I even think that the heat problem is even worse in clamshell mode.
edit: I was sure that I didnt experience the same problems in windows 7 on my bootcamp partition but I actually do.
