When I played certain games on snow leopard the fan kicked up to 6200 rpm and the temp up to 90c.

But now on osx lion when I play the same games the fan remains at 2000 rpm and the macbook stays cool. More heavy games are running also quite a bit cooler fan max 4500 rpm and never reaches 6200rpm like it used to be.

Does anyone notice the same?

Nope, 3D performance is definitely higher, but still tops out at 90C for me

It still does top out 92c for me as well when i run cputest. But it seems with osx lion the management is better. Normally when i play braid for example the temp would rise very fast. But now with lion this isn't the case anymore.

I've noticed more fan noise and higher temperatures with Lion.

Even watching a youtube video at 720p or 1080p will make the fan go as fast as I've ever heard it run.
