Hi all

I have a noticed a couple of times when I move touch the MBP, I will hear what sounds like a hard disk "ping" sound, even though I have the hard disk sleep mode disabled on batter / power - everything functions perfectly though. It sounds like something tapping metal - only one "ping" sound (not constant ticking). Mine has the Hitachi 250GB hard disk. Should I be concerned and what is it?

Normal. Ignore it.

Just did my own simple troubleshooting, its the Sudden Motion Sensor in the Hitachi drive. I sat the laptop on a bed and put one finger on the left and right of the frame around the keyboard and pressed suddenly - tick. Im use to SSD, but even my WD drives never made this sound, must be a Hitachi thing.

It is the Sudden Motion Sensor, an Apple technology. Hitachi's seem to be very loud, now, for unknown reasons.
