Hi my Macbook has developed dark spotlight type patches at the bottom of the screen.

Is this a problem with the screen itself or something else

i have opened up the laptop and the display cable seems to have some corrosion or electrical burn on it. will this be the cause?

Any help apreciated

This could be the result of the bezel pressing against the screen just at the bottom. Some kind of bowing/warpage maybe.

I wonder if its related to some people complaining about the LED backlighting becoming uneven when the machine is running hot, aka actually being used.

Post pictures, as they are always helpful.

Fix for dark spotlight patches.

Shift + Control + Eject. It's a known issue with the MacBook pro since 2008. Apple will not fix it. Apple has a thread of over 6,000 in it's forum regarding this issue. A simple firmware fix would remedy the problem. There is a bootleg fox floating around the Internet that I personally tried it works great except it glitches your eject button. Sometimes you press the button and it does not eject your media. If you can deal with that then you can apply that patch. I use it but I don't have a cd drive in my MacBook. I replaced it with another hard drive. If you use cd's a lot don't use it.
