MBP 13" wont recognise the hard drive

hey guys i just got a wd scorpio internal hard drive na dput it in an enclosure.
I connected to my mbp and it wont recognize it. It says that this disk is not supported by the computer. when i go to disk utility it recognizes it but u cant do anything with it. Does this happen cuz the drive was not formatted for osx or the enclosure might be faulty. Is there a menu on disk utility that i can click to format this drive with osx.

OS X uses a file system called HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) and you can erase/partition any drive via Disk Utility and the appropriate tab.

Do you use an external enclosure with USB or one with Firewire?

In Disk Utility, if you click on the disk you want to format in the left hand panel, you should see some tabs appear in the main part of the window... click on Erase, and use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and simply hit erase.

If this doesn't work, my bet is the enclosure or disk is faulty.
