Hey everyone,

Was hoping a few users here could provide their input on a few questions I have. Currently posting this on my 15" Mid 2012 MBP (the one with the DVD drive). I am thinking of upgrading this year, this thing is built like a tank but it also weighs like one.

Thinking of going for the new base model. Things I will be doing:

3D Work
Graphics/illustration
Gaming (With External GPU)

Some of my workload requires Windows, which I use through bootcamp. (I don't on the current MBP because it gets so hot so quick that the fans run at 100% in Windows) I guess due to Windows in bootcamp using the dedicated GPU only.

So here are some questions.

Will the power usage for gaming be too much resulting in the MBP losing charge even when plugged in?
(If so, if powered by an external GPU via Thunderbolt, would this provide more power?)

In Bootcamp will the dedicated GPU still be the only one in use? (Will this result in fans going crazy or has the heat from these improved?)

If a Thunderbolt EGPU is plugged in, will the dedicated GPU be automatically disabled (hopefully resulting in less heat while gaming)?

Final question, will Freesync work when using an external GPU? (So Thunderbolt to EGPU then DisplayPort from EGPU to monitor)

Really appreciate any input that anyone can provide! Thanks.

I think the machine will get hot either way during heavy load, the CPU could cause that too of course. I don't have experience with external GPUs though. It does sound like this work is better suited for a desktop machine, although now that I think of it, the other options don't have great thermal capabilities either.

I probably should have included that I have a desktop too. But I would like to have a portable work/gaming machine that I can just dock into different locations for more powerful graphics needs. (Mac OS is a requirement)
