Hello forum,

I need you advice. I am finally going to take the plunge and get my first mac computer. I will get the 15 retina MBP but I am in a dilemma on which model to get. I am between the base model with 16GB of ram and the model with the dGPU. The difference is about £300 so not exactly negligible.

My main uses with it will be programming, writing documents / presentations, music recording and very light photoshop / video editing. I like to game a bit but mainly indie titles or civ 5. I play more taxing games on consoles.

Do you think it is worth it to spend the extra £300 for the CPU upgrade, the HDD space and the dGPU? Has anyone noticed problems with the switching or increased heating issues with the dGPU? Does it affect battery life?
