Hi All,

Newbie here although I have been reading various blogs on the forum for a while now.

Anyway, I bought a dead 15" MPB unibody (2009 I think) for spares from a friend who's young daughter had sprayed some sort of domestic cleaning product on to it!

He had taken the computer to a local guy who told him the logic board needed replacing. Like I've said I bought it for spares but decided to have a play with it and see what happened. After a strip down and some tinkering I managed to actually get it to boot by jumping two of the connectors on the keyboard connector block as it would not turn on from the power button.

I've since replaced the keyboard and it now turns on on the power button but none of the other keys work. The trackpad did work on the first boot but has since died, the isight cam is also not recognised.

Apart from these rather disabling faults the computer seems to work fine, I've used a USB mouse to check most of the other features and they seem OK.

I've got some isopropyl alcohol on order and am planning on giving the logic board a good clean incase there is a short somewhere that is preventing the keyboard and trackpad from operating. Interestingly, if I pull the trackpad ribbon connector out whilst powered up (or before booting) then the fans go straight to warp speed? Not sure why the trackpad should have an affect on the fan control?

Perhaps it is the case that there is a substantial fault on the logic board but I thought I'd give it a go on here before giving up on it completely. Worst case, I still have a spare screen, HD, Superdrive chassis etc for my computer...!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

J
