I bought a MBP 15" water damaged; i got it now to start into Mac OSX from the internal HDD and all seems to work fine. Just sometimes he is not recognizing the internal HDD and so on won't boot. I wanted to test the hardware with the Apple Hardware Test but the seller didn't ship the original CD's. So I tried it with the Apple Service Diagnostic 3S146. I restored the ASD EFI 3S146.dmg to a 4GB USB Stick and booted from it. It's the first time I've been using ASD so correct me if I'm wrong.
But the process hangs at the "searching for hardware to run test" screen:
