Land of the Free-Waiting for Term Limits
Have had my 16” for about 1.2 years, AppleCare etc.
Been fine, running 3 external monitors no issues (ACD 24”, + 2 Viewsonic 24’s) with the laptop open on a stand.

Today, out of nowhere, the laptop screen goes black when I was on a Zoom meeting, other monitors continued to function, no issues. After call I did the usuals. Unplug it all, reboot, SMC reset, PRAM, etc. nada

Now, it’s dead. I can tell it powers as the monitors want to go live, but they are black screen as well. Have tried to enter password after like a 5 min boot- nothing brings one, 2 or 3 up. Disconnecting all or trying all variations have netting nothing as well.

Have an appointment in the AM to get it fixed, but more than likely going to have to buy another as work will not wait for days on a repair.
Anyone experience this?

Laptops are complex devices and there is always a small chance of sudden malfunction. Around 20% of premium-quality laptops will likely malfunction within the third year after purchase, according to available stats. That’s why having a warranty is a good idea. There is nothing strange or alarming in your case, it’s a question of luck.

Sounds like a GPU failure. But, since you have AppleCare it should be covered no matter the reason. Hopefully they can fix it quickly.

yeah, first Mac I have ever had that just died- guess it is what it is.
Covid helps again, ship out 7-14 days no exception paths available. Did buy another to get by, genius said everyone is doing that. Good on their 14 day return policy and support.

Glad for Apple's 14 day return period. By they should have you fixed up.

day 5 since Apple physically received my machine, still sitting in Diagnosing queue. Hope they get to it quick, machine due back in one week from tomorrow for return window.
If it looks like it will not make it back before your return window, you could buy another one and return your other recently purchased/borrowed machine. In an ideal world, Apple would extend your return window a bit, otherwise they could end up with two MBPs that they need to "refurbish" and sell as "refreshed" not new.

Got the MBP back yesterday, just in time for return window. Replaced entire display and display sensor, which I am now wondering if running a dock for 3 external monitors had anything to do with this as per the new update speaking to these units. No idea.

If you are powering it from the dock there have been issues.

My 2019 16" recently completely died too. They replaced practically everything (logic board, display, touch id) when I sent it in. Something is definitely going on with them.

Also a reminder to always buy Apple Care ;P
