Hi all,

I keep my new MBP 16" (2021 M1 Pro) almost exclusively on my desktop attached to a USB-C monitor, which is also charging it. As a result, the battery level is almost ever at 100%. Shouldn't at some point the "Optimised Battery Charging" kick in and only charge it to 80%?

The settings for "optimised battery charging" are ticked for "battery" as well as for "power adapter". Could it be that this mode only works when charging it through the Apple power adapter, but not when charging through the USB-C cable via the external display?

Thanks for your help!

How long have you had your MBP? I believe it takes time to learn your charging habits. I have a 16” M1 Max MBP connected to a dock that delivers 96W and it just recently drained by itself to 80% and shows charging on hold due to it being rarely used on battery.

Edit: Got my MBP on launch day and has been docked since

exactly for four weeks now. optimised charging went on exactly once around 10 days ago, when I was in a train and charged it there. it told me it will hold battery level at 80%, but that was the only time and I have never seen that message ever again.

Mine took two weeks to run it down to 80% the first time, and then went back up to 100% a couple times after that for no apparent reason, but it has settled back down again at 80%. I imagine yours will figure it out eventually.
