I have a stupid question. I've had a 13" MBP for quite a while, and am thinking about the 16". I do quite a lot of note-taking, with the laptop on my lap (which I find easier on my hands/wrists than having it up on a table), sometimes for hours at a time.

Given its size, is it at all awkward or uncomfortable to actually use the 16 on your lap for taking notes? Or not in the least?

I wanted to try this at the Apple Store, but they didn't want to unlock their demo units from the table.

Think the smaller version is better for that specific use case, but really depends on you.

It's doable but it's definitely heavier and more unwieldy for note taking while having it on your lap. A 13" is probably a better option - so it really depends on what other reasons you might need or want the 16".

The other option is a 16" but just using a simpler iPad for note taking

Smaller will be better as it's foot print will be smaller. With that said, I prefer the 15" form factor and I've used that consistently over a 13" even for simple tasks :)

Thanks. I've never had a 15" to try out.

I do also have a 13" ipad pro, but the keyboard case (while pretty good for a keyboard case) doesn't cut it for hours of note-taking.

And yeah I realize a 13" MBP is a better note-taking device than a 16" MBP, though I'm considering the 16" for its other advantages.

I’m probably in the minority, but I prefer a larger machine when using it actually on lap so I’m not worried about it coming off one of my legs and the whole setup collapsing.

This sounds like a situation where you're better off waiting for the new keyboard to make its way to the 13" and see how you like it.

I feel exactly the same way. My former 13" MBP had to be balanced on both legs and I was worried about it falling haha. 15-16" just suits my lap better, but I guess this depends on how big you are.
