Is it possible that Apple would refresh the 16inch line with the 10th gen and AMD 6000 series (that will be announced 28th oct) this fall ?

And would it be improvement from the 5600m?

Or are we only expecting the minor 10th gen refresh and the 5600m will be the best option for awhile?

I would hope so, that’s the only reason why I cancelled my fully spec’d out MBP 16, the iGPU on the 9th gen i9 is just ****ing horrible and slow.

Give me a 10th gen CPU plus a new AMD 6000 line GPU and take my money!

"proven" leaker, L0vetodream, said earlier this month that there will not be anymore 16" MBP updates this year

If the AMD 6000 Series also uses GDDR6(X), then it will have the same heating "feature" as the current 16". I doubt AMD finally "fixed" the GPU behavior of running the VRAM at full clock speed if more than one displays are connected.

10th gen H chips use the same IGPU. There has been no reason to improve the IGPU on machines that use H chips, as for any heavy lifting they have dedicated GPU’s.

The only reason the low and mid range chips got new IGPU’s is because those chips are never in machines with DGPU’s, so it’s needed.

I’m not sure what your issue with the UHD630 is? For the times it is actually utilized, it’s fine and not noticeable. When real power is needed the DGPU steps up and smokes any IGPU out there anyways.

The RDNA2 chips won’t be that crazy of an improvement either. Just a refinement of architecture (right now RDNA is sort of a hybrid between RDNA and GCN), and potentially hardware raytracing (not sure if low end or pro mobility will get this).

This isn’t even a Mac specific issue, my 5700XT windows machine does this too unless I play with the screen refresh rate settings.

If I'm not mistaken it just got updated in June. The next refresh will be Apple silicon. Don't expect any more Intel

It is very noticeable. From what I can tell, it's not the UHD 630 itself, but the implementation that is presumably designed to favor efficiency. The UI stutters as a result of this when operating on the iGPU, predominantly when the iGPU is at idle and then it is asked to work. It comes in the form of scroll skips, mouse skips, and delays from when you press a key to when you see the letter on the screen. If you have something visible on the screen that keeps the iGPU active at all times (e.g., a video in the background), this behavior disappears. Alternatively, this behavior disappears completely on the dGPU.

None of this happens on my 16.

Unfortunately, it seems to happen on all of them. Just not everyone notices it. You also might not use the system in a way where it pops up very often. It's minor, but it is also annoying if you do. It appears the decision was made to set this threshold between efficiency and responsiveness. I honestly wish I did not notice it.

Technically he is not saying there won't be any updates, he's saying the guy should wait for 2021 :)

From what I hear, AMD will be focusing on the high-end this year. It’s probably less likely that a small Navi 2 chip is in the pipeline so soon.

Next year, there might be a Tiger Lake H + Navi2 upgrade, unless we get a new Apple Silicon system before that.
