So my 2019 MBP 16" i7 seems to suffer from a slight case of insomnia, meaning it doesn't go into sleep mode when I close the lid.

I rarely restart the computer and I never shut it off when I don't use it. Instead, I just close the lid and I've been doing this for years and years. But now with my new 16-inch, I can hear the Messenger notification sounds coming from the laptop when the lid is closed and it's supposed to slumber... (I am logged in on Facebook in Chrome, and the notification sound comes when I receive new messages).

What's going on here? Anyone has the same problem, or better yet: the solution?

Thanks!

Try create another user account and see if this can be replicated on other user...if not, then its related to your account specific user settings on the mac

Turn off Power Nap. If Power Nap is active and the computer is plugged in, the computer doesn't actually sleep. Certain apps remain running by design.
