Does anyone have that feeling that the light is too dim / not normal until you go up to 80-90% even in a dark room ?

Funnily enough, yes I do. I think I may be in the minority when I say that although the screen is great overall, it is not my favourite feature of the MBP and at mid-medium brightness it is quite average. I find that watching a film on battery is a difficult balancing exercise as you do need to bump the brightness to around 70% to get a decent picture which will of course take its toll on battery life.

I can see why Apple scaled the brightness in this way given the battery implications. Using the MBP on AC obviates these issues of course.

My late 2011 15" has the same ramping up of brightness. It may be more of a preference than anything. I usually use my mbp at full brightness, so anything less seems a bit dim.
