My F5/6 keyboard back-light buttons have always worked. I tried pressing them today and they no longer allow me to adjust the keyboard back-light brightness.

Here's the image I get when i hit one of those buttons:

Please don't tell me to cover the light sensor, I've tried it and it does not reactivate the buttons. I've even gone into a closed, no window, bathroom in the pitch black and the buttons still don't work.
 
The user account thing didn't work either. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

It just means the computer thinks it's bright enough to not need te keyboar backlight. Just cover the area around the cam with your thumb and try it
