I can't distinguish individual pixels on my MBP. Thought: "This is indeed as crisp as my retina iPad". So I visited Google to find out how Apple themselves explain the term, and I found this:

Apparently, I was right. The 17" (and (almost) the MBA 11 and the 15" 1680*1050) does in fact have a retina display (this must of course mean that the display in the new 15" is a "SUPER RETINA DISPLAY"(!!!)).
This only serves to prove one point: That you shouldn't get to carried away about this "RETINA" talk, at least not if you already have a MBA 11, a MBP 15" Hi-res or a 17".
That being said, I do think that the specs and design of the new 15" make it a truly amazing product. Sometimes it's just a good idea to analyse what marketing tricks companies are trying to entice us with. Makes it a little easier to keep the Visa in our pockets, even though Apple sure makes it hard
(I realize that there's not much to debate here, I just wanted to share the thought)
