Hello

I just replaced the hard drive in my new second hand 17" 2.33ghz ati MBP -

I got the thing second hand last week and I have to say i was a little disappointed with the performance.

The machine came to me with 3GB installed , which is the max this model can take. However I removed both the moduals and replaced it with 2x1GB seeing as you are supposed to use a matched pair to get the best performance ( correct me if am wrong here )

Still I remember my old Macbook 2ghz C2D being faster..

After a little investigating i decided it must have been a really slow hard drive in there so decided to replace with 8MB Cache 250 7200RPM WD drive.
The drive that was removed was an apple branded one.

The performance is now much much better, and exactly what I would expect from a MBP :)

I can believe apple even put such a bad drive in this machine, sure it could have deteriorated over time ( machine is 22months old ) but from what I gather is always been like that.

big thank you to ifixit for the how to, and I would recommend doing this job yourself to anyone who has need to replace there MBP hard drive for any reason - takes a bit of time but its not hard to do!
