I'm in a certain predicament, I purchased a new 17 MacBook Pro 2.8ghz this past weekend for $2499 plus tax at Best Buy. Today, I came across a 15 Unibody Macbook Pro 2.4ghz for only $1049 at Best Buy. It was open box, but only $1049. I'm debating whether to return the 17" and keep the 15". But I really like the screen on the 17". But I would be saving nearly $1500 getting the 15". What would you all do? Pros and cons would be nice. Thanks.

Keep your 17".
17" has more resolution, a better screen with tight hinge, and it does not weigh too much than a 15".

the 17" resolution alone is worth the price alone. it's an amazing screen. i know 15" can be hooked into an external screen with high resolution, but it's quite a pain as you need to hook and plug every time.

i'd say stick with the 17".

it depends to what you plan to do with it ?

Given that the 2.4 15" is a last-generation MBP...

17" Pros:
+Bigger, better screen
+Faster processor with higher L2 cache
+8 hour built-in battery (may be a con for some)
+Additional USB port

17" Cons:
-Less portable than the 15"
-Expensive

15" Pros:
+More portable
+Much cheaper in your case
+Expresscard slot still present, unlike the present 15"
+Did I mention cheaper? :p

15" Cons:
-Inferior battery technology
-Slower processor with half the L2 cache
-Huge resolution decrease from 17"
-One less USB port

If you don't need the money you spent and you like the 17", keep it. On the other hand, if you want something more portable and aren't needing all the power of the 17" while wanting $$$ back in your pocket, the 15" is a good choice as well.

Don't allow the price to cloud your judgement. If you want the 17" screen then you won't be happy if you buy the 15" just because it was a lot cheaper.
