^that being said, i'll still give you my deets :p.

i've just got safari, itunes and transmission torrenting, and i'm resting at a cool 34C.

Mine's running quite a bit hotter. I'm sitting at 80 C right now. But I'm doing some distributed computing, so my CPU is constantly cranking at 90-97% usage. So yeah haha. Aside from that it usually never gets too overly hot :D

I never look at the temps anymore. I used too, but I have found that the machines tend to run hot, especially with intensive usage. Amd I have never had an issue with the computer no matter what the temperature was running. The system is designed to handle those temps no trouble.

reason im asking is because im considering on upgrading from an Dell m1330 C2D to a MBP 17 with the i5. My gpu is at 80* C and my CPU is at 75* C idle.

thanks alot guys!

Macs can easily run GPU/CPU temps up to 105C/221F without shutting down, so you're a long way from that.

This hasn't been my experience. I can't play World of Warcraft without using my cooling pad. Without my cooling pad my temps will reach 80 C and shortly after my MBP will shut down. This is even after reapplying thermal paste myself.

That's a little weird. I've had my temps sit at or above 80C or above for hours at a time and my MBP has been fine.
