Hi,

I'm just waiting to see the upcoming MBP updates, like all of you. But I wonder if it could make sense to buy a "old" used 17" C2D MBP and upgrade the HD with a SSD.

My requirements:
1) SW Development => Screen resolution is very important (min. 1920*1200 or better - like on the iMac 27" would be a dream)
2) FullHD Video AVCHD Editing mit iMovie (maybe Finalcut or Adobe Premiere) => Speed, speed, speed,...
3) Watching TV-Streams with VBox (or maybe Paralles/VMware) [unfortunatelly, there is no SW on OSX for that like SOAPCast, TVAnts, ...] => Speed, speed, speed

Option 1) Upcoming 17"MBP i7 with HD (as SSD would be to expensive)
Option 2) Used 17"MBP C2D 2,6 and use the saved money for a 256GB SSD
Option 3) iMac i7 + (MacBook 2.1 - which I alraedy have) {{{I like sitting on the couch or in the bed while I'm developing}}}

What are your opinions? I'm just curious.

Thx,
jazer

You need more from the processor than the HD/SSD. SSD is faster when opening something but CPU will speed up things while doing them. CPU is not upgradeable while HD is so I would definitely run for better CPU. iMac is the fastest so get it unless you really need portability
