MBP (2.2 SR) touchpad problems with double-tap-drag

Why is the trackpad still in drag mode (e.g., for a window) when I touch the pad again after releasing my finger from double-tap-drag? If I leave my finger off a bit longer the problem is not there.

I have Ubuntu 7.10 installed and the problem doesnt exist there... I can release and touch again to do other things instantly.

is there a way to set/hack the threshold? its kinda annoying having to wait a while after each double tap.
